Andrew trained as a Biomedical Scientist in the Histopathology Department at St. George’s Hospital in London and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science in 1986.

Shortly afterwards Andrew took up a post within the Immunocytochemistry (ICC) laboratories at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, and from 1996 until 2014 ran the ICC, and latterly the Molecular Pathology services.

In early 2014, Andrew returned to London to work in the Breast Research Centre of the Royal Marsden Hospital, as its Senior Clinical Research Scientist.

Andrew became an assessor for UK NEQAS ICC & ISH in 1995 and Deputy Director in 2007.

At the end of 2018 he was appointed as its Director.

Andrew is a trustee of the UK NEQAS charity, and sits on its Executive Board as a representative for the Cellular Pathology division.
